Montserrat is a volcanic island in the Caribbean Sea, southeast of Puerto Rico. Since continued eruptions from the Soufriere Hills volcano began in the 1990's, thousands of people have been forced to leave the island. The country's capital is Plymouth, but due to the volcanic activity, this city has been abandoned since 1997. Interim government facilities have been built miles away at Brades Estate at the northwest end of the island. Montserrat is divided into three parishes; St. Anthony, St. Georges, and St. Peter.
